Tuition Fees and Living Costs

All higher education in New Zealand requires students to pay a certain amount of fees. Although the tuition cost in New Zealand is far more reasonable than in other developed countries. As per official terms of the immigration department, a student must have at least NZD 10,200 in their account to prove the fact that they can afford their expenses.

  • An undergraduate degree costs about NZD 22,000 to NZD 32,000 for an academic year.
  • The master’s degree costs around NZD 26,000 to NZD 37,000 per academic year.
  • Ph.D. Students may have to pay NZD 6,000 to NZD 9,000 depending on how much funding they receive in New Zealand for their studies.

In addition to all the tuition fees, a student will also require finances for their daily expenses, and a good NZD 20,000 – NZD 30,000 can take care of all the basic needs of the student while they study in the very best institutes, and experience the culture the kiwis have to offer.

General expenses like the following need to be considered while planning to study in New Zealand.

  • Rent can range between NZD 800 – NZD 900 if the student chooses to settle outside the campus.
  • Basic groceries per week can cost about $100-$150.
  • Health check-ups or visiting a doctor can cost around $45-$85 in New Zealand.

Overall, New Zealand happens to be a pretty affordable place to study for students. If students enroll for a course that is less than 3 years or 36 months, they will have to incur $12,500 monthly each year to cover the expenses. The students in this case might have to open an FTS account which would have living expenses transferred to that account.
